Welcome to the official Newcastle University Paediatrics Society Website!

Enthusiastic about a career in Paediatrics? Or do you really enjoy working with children, but are yet to make up your mind?

Newcastle University Paediatrics Society was created in 2012 to assist those curious about a paediatric career gain valuable insight into this speciality. We aim to provide useful information and skills for students at all stages in their undergraduate degree, in order to place them in the best position to apply to this field.

Thanks to our dedicated committee for four years running, we have hosted a number of successful events over the years, including our annual Northern Undergraduate Paediatric Conference, speaker evenings, social service activities and charity events (we are pretty good at baking). Last years jam-packed 2-day conference featured nine plenary speakers including BBC Junior doctor’s Kier Shiels, and ten workshops covering neonatal emergency simulations (yes, using real equipment) and paediatric CPR/BLS training.

This academic year will feature our annual Student Selected Component/elective speaker evening and NUPConference. Plus we have exciting collaborative speaker evenings with other medical societies in the pipeline for October (paediatric surgery and palliative care), more charity bakesales and various social service activities coming your way. Later this year, we are also hoping to set up a mentor scheme to link enthusiastic and aspiring paediatricians to consultant mentors who may be able to provide clinical and research opportunities to their assigned mentees. A lot to look forward to!
